High stakes poker cash games are everywhere!

April 28, 2010 · Posted in Online Poker Games, Tv Poker Shows · Comments

Nowadays, it is not unusal to see high stakes poker cash games on TV anymore. There are many TV Poker shows where you can observe professional poker players playing stakes as high as $300 / $600 and even more.

To give you a couple of examples, just think of TV Show called High Stakes Poker. They are currently in their 6th season already, which means people like me and you really enjoy watching such TV shows.

High Stakes Poker are just one of these TV shows available for you to watch. There are also other interesting ones like Durrr’s live million dollar cash games challenge, or Poker after dark Cash Game.

Seeing such shows on mainstream TV is by my opinion good indicator how poker games have become popular all over the world in the last 3 or 4 years. Same goes for TV ads that advertise different poker rooms.

I live in Slovenia and the poker was never advertised on TV as much as I see it these days (I am not sure about your country though). But I suppose that is a good thing.

Online High Stakes Poker Cash Games

But what about online high stakes poker? Is it possible to watch the same professional poker players (that we see on TV) play online as well?

I am sure you know the answer already, but anyways: Yes, you can see these high stakes players playing online too!

Although it is hard to predict when players like Tom Durrr Dwan, Gus Hansen or Ilari Ziigmund Sahamies will actually be playing online, you will bump into them sooner or later. Just like I did!

To cut the long story short, I logged into Full Tilt Poker one Friday and there they were Durr and Ziigmund blasting eachother in $500 / $1000 Online Pot-limit Heads Up cash games.

Since I wanted to show it to you, I even recorded one of the biggest pots for you to see it. Here is is:

To conclude, high stakes poker cash games can not only be seen on TV, but on the internet as well! You never know, when you will log into the Full Tilt Poker and see some of the best poker players playing for the highest limits available.

What is your favorite poker show? You can leave it in comments below! : )

Online poker is not the only form of online gambling

February 9, 2010 · Posted in Online Poker Games · Comments

It has been a while since poker has become very popular online. Much has happened and changed since the online poker boom that occured between 2001 and 2005. For instance, more and more people have become part of the online poker show and as a result, more online poker sites have opened their virtual rooms to fill the need and give players the opportunity to play poker online, in the comfort of their own homes.

Obviously, online poker is not the only form of online gambling. There are many other ways that you can gamble online. Most probably, you have heard of at least some of them. Perhaps you have already tried them out too. If so, then you can tell me about your experience in the comments below if you wish.

Before I go and tell you about some of the gambling forms that are available on the internet, let me get back to online poker for a second.

Back then when I started with online poker (it was somewhere in year 2006), the poker was still on horizon. The number of online poker players was much lower than it is today. Ofcourse, some of them have already been playing as professional back then, but that number was much lower than it is today.

The same goes for online poker rooms. Some of them have been alive and kicking already. As I can recall, the biggest and most popular among them in that time was PartyPoker. The rest of the poker sites were very small in terms of market share and the number of online poker players that they attracted.

But as the time went on, the big PartyPoker lost its market share to other competitors such as PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker. Perhaps cutting off players from United States of America had something to do with it?

To get back to other forms of online gambling: Online gambling sites have also been involved in a boom of their own. They have grown in number as well as in popularity among the players. This trend was noticed by many poker rooms as well. Many of them have complemented their online poker tables with online casino tables (PartyPoker is one example of that). In addition, poker players (and others) were now given an opportunity to try games like slots machines, blackjack, roullete, craps and video poker that were previously only available offline or in the real world.

I am going to let you decide for your yourself whether online gambling is a good thing or not, whether it is profitable or not (I can only tell you about poker: It is profitable if you have the necessary skills).

Me personally, I do not gamble a lot. Perhaps once or twice a year, so I am not really experienced in such things. But I did find a nice online casino gambling guide, which has lots of interesting information on online gambling in case you need it.

As always, make sure to stay in touch with me and good luck at the poker tables!

How to play Rush Poker: Basics and Tips from Howard Lederer

February 3, 2010 · Posted in Online Poker Games · Comments

Find out about the basics of Rush Poker and read the Tips on how to play Rush Poker from Howard Lederer!

As you know, Full Tilt Poker has just recently launched a new way of playing online poker. It is called Rush Poker and I have already mentioned a couple of things about it in my previous post. Since this kind of online poker games are becoming more and more popular every day, more and more players are interested in how to play Rush Poker profitably.

If this is the case with you as well, then you should definitely read this blog post as it will provide you with some general guidelines or tips for playing Rush poker. It also includes a link to Howard Lederer’s article about this new way of playing online poker.

Anyways, because of its novelty, not much has been said, written and published about how to play these online poker games yet. So far, the only poker player who has written a couple of useful tips for Rush Poker is Howard Lederer (The Poker Professor).

You can read Howard Lederer’s tips by clicking on the following link: The Basics of Rush Poker

To continue with the basics: Before you rush out and involve yourself in these kind of online poker games, you should know that Rush Poker is different from standard online or live poker games in the following aspects:

You are up against large pool of players

Your opponents will be selected from the pool of up to 2000 players. This means you are not playing just against 6 or 9 players like in standard ring games, but instead you are facing new poker players basically every new hand.

The importance of table image is thus reduces significantly, but it is still advisable to observe your opponents and how they play online poker.

Time waiting for new hand is reduced massively

Whenever you fold a hand, you are instantly moved to another table and you instantly get dealt another hand. That means no waiting for the table to finish the current hand.

You get to play a lot more hands in the same period of time. According to Howard Lederer’s article, Rush poker allows you to play 300 hands per hour instead of 80 as in normal online poker games.

In the past, you could only achieve this with multitabling (playing more than one table at the same time), but not any more obviously. Ofcourse, you can still multitable on two different limits and play 600 hands per hour with just two tables!

You still pay for the blinds

Perhaps you are thinking something like this: I will only play big hands (like AA and KK) and will fold anything else. Well, you can do that ofcourse, but do not forget that you will still be paying for the blinds.

Do not relly only on the monsters pre-flop. Go out there and steal some blinds in Rush Poker as well, especially when you are in middle and late positions.

To get more Tips about how to play and adjust yourself to Rush Poker games, make sure to read the article from Howard Lederer that I already mentioned above. Here is the link: The Basics of Rush Poker

With that said, I am really interested in what you think about Rush Poker. What is your experience with this game format? What do you like about it and what you dont like about it? Do you make more money with it or this game is not profitable for you?

Please, leave your reply in the comments below. Thanks and good luck at the poker tables!
