Latest promotions from Full Tilt Poker – January 2010
Find out about the latest promotions and action at online poker room Full Tilt Poker!
Hey poker players! It has been a while since my last blog post. Hope all is going well for you. Since I have not had an opportunity yet to say it, here it is: I wish you a happy, healthy and successful year of 2010!
At the sime time I would like to thank you for being the reader and subscriber of Online Poker Guide: Thank you!
Today I got some news regarding online poker room Full Tilt Poker and their latest promotions and action. In case you play at FTP, then there is a chance you already know about it as they have sent out an email newsletter about their latest promotions and other interesting stuff. Anyways, here it is:
Video lesson by Erick Lindgren: Playing the final table in MT Poker Tournaments
There is a new video available for you to watch and learn from it at Full Tilt Poker Academy. In this poker video Eric Lindgren explains and demonstrates how to dominate the MTT final tables with a big stack and what to do when things are not going as planned.
Basically what you will learn is how to play final tables in Multi-Table Poker Tournaments from the person who has had big success with it. You can also take the Lindgren Challenge and earn yourself Academy Credits for completing it!
Full Tilt Poker has a new poker format: Rush Poker
If you like to play online poker as fast as possible, then FTP has exactly what you are looking for: Rush Poker! Basically, the Rush Poker is extremly fast paced and intense way of playing ring poker games, where you join a large pool of poker players and face different players every hand.
That means that every time you fold your hand you get transfered to a new online poker table. The time spent waiting for another hand is thus reduced significantly as you immediately get dealt another hand at the table you were transfered to! Pretty cool, isn’t it?
You can play anything from high stakes NL Texas Holdem to micro & low limit Omaha with more than thousands of players participating. Just check out the FTP lobby widgets for information on how many players are currently playing Rush Poker.
I have not had an opportunity to play this poker format, but it sure does sound very interesting. The FTP Pros agree with that, for instance Patrik Antonius says it is especially suitable for grinders.
FTOPS XV starts on 10th of February 2010
Full Tilt Online Poker Series XV starts on 10th of February 2010. This time with 27 online poker events and with a total prize pool of more than $17 Million! You can also win entries for the as much events as you want by playing in the FTOPS XV Satellite Challenges on Full Tilt Poker.
To sum it up: Big action, lots of events and lots of money up for graps. Definitely something you do not want to miss out! That is it for now. Good luck at the tables and see ya around!
Announcing another Online Poker Room: Chili Poker
Hey there! I am sure you all noticed already: Online Poker Guide has became an affiliate for the Online Poker Room Chili Poker! This has actually happened somewhere in August 2009, but I have not made any blog post about this online poker room up to date. Well this is about to change!
I have only managed to put up the Chili Poker banner so far, which can be seen in the upper right corner of this blog. It is available for you to use it in case you decide to make an account with them. Alternatively, you can click here to sign up as well.
Anyways, there is not much yet that I can tell you about Chili Poker since I still have to take a closer look at it. I don’t even know whether it accepts U.S. players or not! In case you have any information that can help us out here and are willing to share it with us, then please leave it in the comments below.
But as I said, this will change soon as I am going to make a detailed review of what they can offer to us as poker players. Hope you will enjoy it!
Liz Lieu is Chili Poker’s Representative
Actually, there is something I can already tell you about this poker site. It is represented by Liz Lieu, one of the well established and quite famous female professional poker player, who is also a model.
Besides that, I have seen a couple of Poker TV Shows with her in the line-up, but not as much to give you any serious analysis or opinion on how she plays poker.
The only opinion about her that I can give you is this: She certainly looks good! Her pictures for the Chili Poker Christmas Promotions are certainly worth taking a look at! What do you think about it? : )
To conclude this announcement of Chili Poker on Online Poker Guide, here is one hand from EPT 2 in Monte Carlo, where Liz Lieu busts out in the blinds battle. Just to remind you that even professional poker players make mistakes sometimes.
Are Online Poker Sites rigged or not?
No matter which online poker sites you play poker at, there will be players who (for some reason or another) claim that the poker site they currently play on is rigged, biased or is cheating.
Oftentimes you will hear stories about online poker sites being rigged from players who have just had a nasty badbeat or are perhaps experiencing a bad downswing. This can best be described, if I just give you an example.
For instance, you are holding KK and at the same time someone has AA. Of course, in situation like this chips will be flying all over the table as both of you have monster hand are more than willing to commit whole stacks pre-flop.
But as soon as you see your opponents, you realise how big of an underdog you are. The only two cards that can save your ass from busting out are the 2 remaining Kings.
The chances of hitting one of the Kings by the river and winning the hand are therefore very slim. To be more specific, you have around 18 % chance of winning with KK when some else holds an AA.
But despite being in such a bad spot (or shape perhaps), in the long run you will still win 18 hands out of 100 when holding KK versus AA. Now lets say that the above mentioned situation is one of those 18 hands, which means you hit your King on the river and win the hand.
This makes a player with AA very upset as he just lost the best (pre-flop) hand possible and claims that the online poker site is rigged. Of course, we can not blame him for saying that as it really sucks to lose Aces against Kings, especially on the river.
Never the less, you must know that such badbeats happen. Not because online poker sites are rigged, but simply because the mathematics and probability in poker. Every poker player that plays either online or live poker on regular basis will sooner or later came across situations like that.
You are bound to come across situations where your Aces will lose against Kings, if you play poker. That is just part of the game. So do not let it get to you, when it happens. Just get back on your horse and keep on grinding because in the long run you will still have big profit from hands like AA.
In case you are interested in how online poker sites take care of NOT being rigged, well, they do it by using software with so called Random Number Generators and Pseudo-Random Number Generators. Visit this poker blog for more information on the above generators.
Of course, there can still be online poker rooms out there who actually are rigged, but I believe they will get caught sooner or later. Therefore, do not worry whether the online poker room you play at is rigged or not.
Instead, rather focus your attention on the poker game itself and learn from the mistakes you make!
Good luck at the tables and do not let the badbeats and downswings get the best of you. Until next time, have fun and good luck at the tables!
Tom »Durr« Dwan joins the Team Full Tilt
Tom »Durr« Dwan just joined the Team Full Tilt! Pretty amazing I would say, especially because the Full Tilt Poker is not accepting new members every day. The last member that joined this team was Patrick Antonius, which happened in June 2008.
I have been watching Tom Dwan’s poker game on various TV shows (High Stakes Poker, Million Dollar Cash Game,…) for some time now, and I must say I am impressed with his poker skills!
In case you missed it out, I highly advice you watch those TV shows as you will learn a lot about NL Texas Holdem and poker in general!
What do I like the most in his game? Well, one thing I like the most about Durr is his aggressive style of poker. You will see him raising, reraising, bluffing and otherwise putting a pressure on his opponents on regular basis. He simply does not let them breathe while they are in the pot with him.
The other thing I like about Durr (this is also connected with the first one) is his ability to play any two cards at any time. He is mixing up his poker game so much that even the best poker pros hardly put him on a hand!
Therefore he will oftentimes get called when holding the nuts, but will also make his opponents fold the best hand, when bluffing.
An example of how Tom “Durr” Dwan plays poker
To give you an example of how Tom Dwan plays poker watch this hand he played against Howard Lederer:
Considering the fact that Howard Lederer is a tight poker player, that kind of play against him is especially interesting. I guess it is true about what they say: There is a thin line between Genius and Madness.
Another interesting thing about Dwan is the fact that he started his poker career and become famous by playing poker online! His nickname is “Durr”.
Only after establishing his reputation online, he began to play live poker game with the best players as well. Anyways, I think that Tom »Durr« Dwan is a nice addition to the Team Full Tilt.
What do you think about Durr? Do you like his style of poker or not? Have you seen him playing on Full Tilt Poker already? Tell us about it in comments please!
