High stakes poker cash games are everywhere!
Nowadays, it is not unusal to see high stakes poker cash games on TV anymore. There are many TV Poker shows where you can observe professional poker players playing stakes as high as $300 / $600 and even more.
To give you a couple of examples, just think of TV Show called High Stakes Poker. They are currently in their 6th season already, which means people like me and you really enjoy watching such TV shows.
High Stakes Poker are just one of these TV shows available for you to watch. There are also other interesting ones like Durrr’s live million dollar cash games challenge, or Poker after dark Cash Game.
Seeing such shows on mainstream TV is by my opinion good indicator how poker games have become popular all over the world in the last 3 or 4 years. Same goes for TV ads that advertise different poker rooms.
I live in Slovenia and the poker was never advertised on TV as much as I see it these days (I am not sure about your country though). But I suppose that is a good thing.
Online High Stakes Poker Cash Games
But what about online high stakes poker? Is it possible to watch the same professional poker players (that we see on TV) play online as well?
I am sure you know the answer already, but anyways: Yes, you can see these high stakes players playing online too!
Although it is hard to predict when players like Tom Durrr Dwan, Gus Hansen or Ilari Ziigmund Sahamies will actually be playing online, you will bump into them sooner or later. Just like I did!
To cut the long story short, I logged into Full Tilt Poker one Friday and there they were Durr and Ziigmund blasting eachother in $500 / $1000 Online Pot-limit Heads Up cash games.
Since I wanted to show it to you, I even recorded one of the biggest pots for you to see it. Here is is:
To conclude, high stakes poker cash games can not only be seen on TV, but on the internet as well! You never know, when you will log into the Full Tilt Poker and see some of the best poker players playing for the highest limits available.
What is your favorite poker show? You can leave it in comments below! : )
Tom Durrrr Dwan’s Live Million Dollar Cash Game Challenge
Watch Tom »Durrrr« Dwan play against different opponents in Million Dollar Cash game Challenge!
This blog post is about Tom »Durrrr« Dwan and his Live Million Dollar Challenge where he is playing Heads Up Poker games live against various different poker players.
As you may or may not know, TV Poker Shows are one way of getting valuable insights into how Poker Pros are making decisions when it comes to poker games. That is why I want to introduce you to another TV Poker Show, which will be especially interesting to you in case you are into Heads Up Games cash games.
Watch how Tom Dwan confronts different opponents in high stakes heads-up poker cash games in the video below and I bet you will learn something about how to play heads up live poker for sure! The first episode below is where Dwan plays versus Sammy Georges (worth watching if/when you have some time to spend).
To add some thoughts on Tom »Durrrr« Dwan alongside this video, before Durrrr joined Team Full Tilt Poker in November 2009, Tom was already playing in the highest staked online poker games on Full Tilt Poker with a nickname »durrrr«.
Not to mention, how he was already well established and known in the Poker world before that too. There were rumors that he has not yet experienced a serious downswing and as soon as that happens he will go broke.
Well, until today that has not (yet?) happened (at least he did not go broke). Instead, he seems to be beating the highest poker table limits just fine. To give you an example:
Tom Dwan’s winrate (BB per 100 hands) on $500/$1000 No-limit Holdem SH table limits after more than 50.000 played hands is almost 5.7. That basically means he is winning over $10K for every 100 hands played! In case he is multitabling (which I am sure he does) he can play 100 hands in (lets say) less than 30 minutes.
Not bad I would say! : )
In case you do not know, live Million Dollar Challenge is basically similar to Online Million Dollar Challenge. The difference is obviously in how or where the games are played and the numbers of hands played.
While in Online Million Dollar Challenge (or the original Durrrr Challenge) both Tom Dwan and his opponent (currently Patrik Antonius) are required to play 50k hands on limits of $200/$400 or higher (multitabling on 4 tables), Live Million Dollar Challenge is less marathon like.
In other words: the number of played hands is a lot lower in live challenge.
To sum it up: Full Tilt Poker’s Live Million Dollar Challenge with Tom »Durrrr« Dwan is a very interesting TV Poker Show that is definitely worth watching! Here it is:
As always: Good luck at the online poker tables, be it on Full Tilt Poker or Lucky Ace Poker or somewhere else. : )
High Stakes Poker TV Poker Show: Season 6
In case you like to watch high stakes NL Texas Holdem cash games on TV (like I do, for instance), then this will definitely be something of interest to you: TV Poker show High Stakes Poker season 6 is being broadcasted on GSN on February the 14th!
Hopefully the episodes will soon be available on the internet as well (for those of us who cant watch NBC TV channel)! According to the information in the video interview below (CPTV Poker Buzz) the season 6 is going to be worth watching for sure! Here is why:
The poker players involved in High stakes Season 6
This season’s lineup of poker players that will be playing in the show is pretty amazing (as usual I would say)! Lots of players have already participated in High Stakes Poker TV Show before. This includes professional poker players and celebrities like Daniel Negreanu, Phill Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, Antonio Esfandiari, Tom Dwan, Patrick Antonius, Mike Matusow and Gus Hansen.
We are going to see italian poker player Dario Minieri that has already played before (season 5 of High Stakes Poker). According to Wikipedia he is pretty much an online poker heads up specialists that plays online under the nickname »Dariominieri« and is also part of the Team PokerStars as well.
The blinds and the buy-ins
All players are going to be playing with their own money. Blinds are the same as in season 5 I think ($300/$600, antes: $200). This means big pots happening almost for sure and some of the players are going to get stacked pretty certainly.
In case Phill Hellmuth gets sucked out badly at least once, I am pretty much sure he will end up among the losing players. But ofcourse, lets wait and see. What about you, who do you think will be this season’s winners and losers?
Anyways, the minimum buyin is $200,000, but there is no limit to how much certain player can buyin for from that point up.
Other things worth mentioning
There has been some changes regarding commentators in the show. As you know, in previous seasons of High Stakes Poker, the hosts were Gabe Caplan and A.J. Benza. In this season though, Gabe Caplan co-host will be Kara Scott.
She will be interviewing players away from the tables through out the whole show with the intention to provide viewers insights into what strategies certain players are using and why. I do not know her from before, but obviously she is well known in the poker world as a professional poker player as well as poker commentator.
To sum it up: The show is by my opinion surely going to be very interesting to watch as well as learn new NL Texas Holdem things from the best players in the world! Do not forget to watch the below video interview about High stakes poker season 6 for more information about this TV Poker Show, which includes some interesting interviews with producers of High Stakes Poker and co-host Kara Scott:
So, what do you think, who is going to win money this year and who is going to lose it? I am really eager to know, so please leave it in the comments below : )
